Novel Covid-19 virus

Amidst the global pandemic and the debate between allopathy and Ayurveda, the core question remains - how to cure ourselves and stay safe? Here is my experience with COVID-19 and how Ayurveda helped me recover.

On the morning of April 27th, 2021, everything was following the routine: the sun rose on time, the day started bright, the weather was warm and dry, and everyone was busy with their daily chores. After breakfast, I jumped to my personal table and engaged in my work-from-home routine. Everything seemed normal, but as the day progressed, I noticed my sense of smell and taste diminishing. By lunchtime, I had no idea what I was eating. It was clear that my immune system had encountered the coronavirus, and I needed to take immediate action.

COVID-19 is no longer a new topic. Almost everyone is familiar with its symptoms (at least the known ones), and I quickly realized that I was experiencing classic signs of the virus. It was shocking but not panic-inducing, and the situation worsened when my mother began suffering from the same symptoms. I called a friend who had recently recovered from COVID-19. He confirmed my suspicion and advised me to isolate myself immediately and get tested as soon as possible.

The next morning, I rushed to the lab for a COVID-19 test. More symptoms emerged: chest congestion, loss of smell and taste, burning eyes, and extreme fatigue. The messages from friends started pouring in, inquiring about my well-being as I hadn't shown up for work. Despite everyone's hopes for a negative result, I was certain I was COVID positive.

On April 29th, I received my report. As expected, it confirmed that I was COVID positive. I shared my report with my friend, who quickly sent me his prescription. It included a combination of allopathy and Ayurveda, specifically Patanjali’s Coronil kit.

The Coronil Kit

The Coronil kit consists of three items:

  1. Coronil tablets
  2. Swasari tablets
  3. Anu Taila

My friend suggested a revised dosage: two Swasari tablets first thing in the morning with lukewarm water and one Coronil tablet after lunch. Along with this, he advised drinking plenty of water and getting lots of sleep. I omitted the vitamin tablets he recommended because my diet was rich in fruits and liquids, which provided the necessary vitamins naturally.

Apart from the medication, yoga and meditation played a significant role in my recovery. Yoga is effective regardless of the illness you're dealing with. However, the most crucial factor in fighting COVID-19 is the patient's willpower and belief in the chosen therapy.

Aftermath

I didn't get retested after recovering because government guidelines suggest that if you start feeling better 10 days after testing positive, there's no need for a retest. I resumed work as soon as I felt better. Now, a month later, I'm fully recovered, though I still experience some post-COVID-19 effects like insomnia. I've struggled with sleep issues since childhood, but COVID-19 exacerbated them. Initially, I thought it was normal for me, but I soon realized it was a common post-COVID effect experienced by many.

Conclusion

From my experience with COVID-19, I've drawn two important lessons:

  1. Choose a Therapy You Trust: Whether it's allopathy, homeopathy, or Ayurveda, trust in your chosen therapy is crucial. I chose Ayurveda because I believe in its efficacy. Ayurveda works on the root cause of illnesses and has proven to be a valuable alternative to allopathy during the pandemic, reducing the burden on the healthcare system.
  2. Maintain a Positive Attitude: Your attitude towards the disease significantly impacts your recovery. A positive mindset can help you overcome even the toughest challenges. As my friend aptly put it, "only positivity can win against COVID’s positivity."
